It is an integrative equipment for lead-acid batteries grinding and metal and non-metal separation. At first, batteries are grinding and collect acid water by an automatic machine. Then scrap batteries go to grinding and separation equipment. Finally, metal and plastic can be obtained. This equipment has been combined the most advanced grinding and separation techniques in the world and adopted unique process technique. It works in an enclosed environment and no wastewater and poisonous gas give off during production.

Environmental Protection Standards
  • Emitted exhaust gas consists with the secondary standard of “Emission Standard of Air Pollutant” (GB16297-1996)
  • The equipment uses negative pressure transportation, no dust in the operating environment. Slight dust leak in the outlet can be manually controlled.

The acid water disposal (reference)
  • Regulating tank, mainly used for adjusting the water quality and making the waste lead dust and sediment, can be effective precipitation and collection. Regulating tank need install level controller and pump.
  • pH regulation and reaction pool: intermittent reactor operation and regulation of pH. Acid water will flow into the reaction tank by a pump. To control the water level, the lye pump starts running at the same time. pH-regulated by pH automatic control instrument control.
  • Coagulation, and sedimentation: coagulation and sedimentation are together. Concrete is from lifting pipeline to concrete tank, the pump will draw the water into the concrete groove from reaction pool, flocculant use PAC, coagulant using PAM
  • Adsorption, this project uses activated carbon adsorption to treat the lead water once again and the removal of tail water with floats.
  • The tailwater system, the clean water tank, water level controller and pump, can reuse water in workroom and discharge.

The Melting Pot (or Refining Pot or Alloying Pot, as it is variously called), is a mechanical mixing device with a pot and a heating arrangement. The inner pot is made of heavy MS plate with dish end bottom. It is placed within a jacket of refractory bricks, which in turn, are protected by an outer cover of MS plate with reinforcements. The pot is covered at the top with opening for feeding lead ingots and is provided with an electro-mechanical mixer. At the bottom, a heating source, usually an oil fired burner, is provided to heat the pot and to melt the lead.

Once lead melts, impurities are skimmed and removed and any consumables required are added. Lead is then drained from the pot through an outlet pipe and valve.

The capacity of such pots depends upon the requirements of particular units. Standard pot capacities made are from 4.0 TPB to 20.0 TPB. Higher capacity pots are also manufactured as required by any particular establishment.

Description of Rotary Furnace
It is a Rotary kiln in the form of a metallic cylinder with conical sides on both ends. A mild steel plate is used for the construction of this shell and its thickness varies depending upon the capacity of the equipment. This shell is rotated on its own axis at 1-2 rpm. These are fabricated from MS squares or flats, machined for a smooth finish. These rollers are fitted on a robust MS structural frame and driven by a gear motor arrangement.

Conical ends of the furnace are open on both sides. The furnace is charged with Raw material along with additives from the front end. This side is provided with a movable door on which a burner is mounted. At the other end, an exhaust block lined with refractory bricks is provided. Flue gases generated are sucked from the exhaust block side of the furnace.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Rotary Furnace

A Mini Blast Furnace with Air Pollution Control Device is a basic coke-fired furnace for secondary re-cycling, which is being used from decades worldwide due to low capital and recurring cost, easy to install and operate. It produces low antimony lead (soft lead ) at low temperature.

Mini Blast Furnace is brick lined structure with firebrick oven. Raw material along with fuel (coke) is fed into furnace manually and the air is supplied by the F.D. Fan. The temperature of the furnace is achieved at the desired level, after specific time molten metal starts flowing in the pit. After that slag is separated and molten metal is poured into molds for the final shape of the product. This process is continued up to the desired time. Whatever the flue gases generated during the operation are sucked through the metallic hood and flow to air pollution control device for treatment. The flue gases which are toxic in nature and need appropriate and adequate air pollution control system for their treatment.

When Lead Acid Batteries are replaced, they contain spent acid with some lead dissolved in it. These used batteries are sold in the open market to lead recyclers where they are drained before being put into the process of recycling. Further in many units, plastic containers of the batteries, after cutting an opening, are washed to remove any lead in them. The drained acid along with any washing effluent of the plastic scrap comprises of the effluent that needs treatment at the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). This ETP is also commonly called "Acid Neutralization System". If unchecked, this untreated effluent will seep into land and would lead to soil contamination, pollution in the groundwater table and their runoff may also lead to pollution of nearby water sources. Hence, their proper treatment before disposal is necessary.Description of Effluent Treatment Plant for Lead Recycling: Effluent from such used batteries mainly consists of sulfates and sulfides of lead, a small quantity of lead and diluted sulphuric acid. Further effluent from container washing which mainly contains a small quantity of lead is also fed to the ETP. This effluent has low pH values. pH balancing agent (caustic or lime in this case) is added to adjust the pH and also for coagulation. The effluent is then mixed for Flocculation. The flocks so formed are settled and dewatered on a Sludge Bed (or through Filter Press). Treated effluent after this is further polished using filters. While treated water may be disposed of or used as permitted by law, sludge is recharged into furnaces for recycling and reclamation of lead.
